![]() Good luck in your travels, may you never be overheard or seen naked in any space you occupy! Also remember to cover your cell phone cameras, and of course the microphone, these being by FAR the most likely ways you're being spied on. Just remember to remove it before leaving. ![]() I called a real security company to investigate her building, knowing they would find nothing but deciding that would be much more assuring.Ī good flashlight in a dark room will work in finding devices with lenses, but a bit of painters tape over any surface the least bit suspicious is easy, too. After testing it and "finding" 10 hidden "cameras" in my own home, none of which are really cameras, I decided not to give it to her. I purchased a device designed to reveal hidden cameras, but it unfortunately makes many things appear to be cameras, such as anything with a glass sensor or lens. I have a mentally ill sister who is fearful of being recorded. It's just that I cant bring myself to spend time worrying about unlikely things happening. I could buy shark deterrent, sting proof wetsuit, avoid walking past tall buildings and being outside in storms. I hate getting bit by sharks or stung by rays in the ocean, struck by lightening or hit on the head by gargoyle heads falling off tall buildings. We checked out of the hotel shortly after. The only way to hear our conversation would be a bug somewhere inside our room. No more than 10 minutes after that comment, a hotel staff knocked on our door to let us know the hotel does not allow burning candles. A few days after staying there, I remembered talking to my husband & noting that we might want to get a scented candle while strolling about. We later concluded that this was the nature of the area & opt to remember this as a “charm” of the city. The place had a heavy mildewy, sewage smell that engulfed our room. We stayed at a large hotel while vacationing outside of the U.S. I am definitely taking notes and leaning on your advice and experiences.ĮTA2. It truly is an unsettling feeling to know bugs are so small & difficult to find nowadays. I would rather find & disconnect them prior to settling down than have our private conversations & our movements tracked from day one. We live in the states so laws here may differ fr other countries. ![]() It is absolutely illegal for an establishment to record what we do without prior consent but, of course, this doesn’t stop homeowners &/or hotels fr installing devices that are near-impossible to find. While we have nothing to hide, we do place high priority on privacy (our own as well as others). For the record: we’re old, we sleep, we eat, we read, etc. I’ll start with the most important: once a business charges and accepts payment from us, what we do in our paid lodging (hotels/airbnbs/etc) is no one’s business but our own. I wanted to explain the reasons why I wrote this post as a few redditors seem to believe in the terrible belief that “if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to be afraid of…” I was surprised to read so many DigitalNomads with similar concerns. Would love some recommendations on detectors that can find most, if not all, illegally hidden cameras &/or bugs within our space.Īs always, thanks in advance for sharing your wisdom.ĮTA. We would like to wander elsewhere in the world but are concern with hidden cameras & listening devices that are now impossible to find. In the past few years, we’ve stayed in hotels and friends’ Airbnbs. Hi everyone - My husband & I have the luxury of working at home/anywhere.
